Making the decision to go ahead and have LASIK is a very important one. For some people, it can even be a life-changing decision. You will not only be improving your vision but ultimately eliminating your dependence on glasses or contact lenses. It can bring an end to years of wearing and purchasing contact lenses or glasses. The investment you make in your eyes with LASIK can pay off, in the long run, in comparison to years of purchasing contact lenses or glasses. It improves your vision for the simple things in life such as seeing your alarm clock or finding your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. It allows you to enjoy your favorite sport or activity without having to bother with contact lenses or glasses. Not only will you be free of glasses, you will have the freedom of choosing sunglasses without needing your prescription added. Laser vision correction represents a safe, minimally invasive option for individuals who do not want to be burdened with wearing glasses.
Typically, patients make the decision to have LASIK after years of dealing with contact lenses and/or glasses. Most patients are extremely pleased with their vision after the procedure; you can tell by the smile they have on their faces when they come back for their first post-op appointment which is the day immediately following the procedure. In fact, over 98% of patients said that they would recommend LASIK to their friends and family. We know this is true because existing patients refer most of our new patients.
The process from start to finish is a relatively quick one. First, a patient would be scheduled for a complimentary LASIK consult to come in and meet with one of our Board Certified ophthalmologists to personally discuss their vision needs and goals. At that time, the patient has the opportunity to ask any questions they might have and the doctor determines whether or not they are a suitable candidate. If the patient would then like to proceed with surgery, a surgery date is chosen and the patient is scheduled for a pre-op appointment.
The surgery is performed at Ontrack Laser Vision Correction Center located in Bedford, New Hampshire, and uses the LADARVision system. LADARVision represents the newest, most advanced technology in laser vision correction. LADARVision incorporates technology known as “active eye tracking” into laser vision correction. Active eye-tracking means that the laser used during surgery accurately tracks your eye – so that the laser is always properly aligned with your eye, no matter how your eye may move during treatment (whether voluntarily or involuntarily). The benefits of eye tracking are important to both the patient and the surgeon.

All-Day Comfort Within Reach For Most Patients
O.D. hears fewer complaints about dryness, discomfort

The most common complaint Sarah Durant, O.D., hears from contact lens wearers is that their eyes feel dry at the end of the day. Now she’s hearing that complaint less after switching patients at Spindel Eye Associates in Derry, NH, to the ACUVUE® Oasys™ brand Contact Lenses with HYDRACLEAR™ Plus. “Nearly every patient remarks that the comfort is much better. They experience less dryness, and they can wear the lenses during the day without using comfort drops.” Dr. Durant has been transitioning current ACUVUE® wearers to the ACUVUE OASYS lens easily by telling them it’s the newest technology and can help people who experience common problems with their current lenses. She mentions that the HYDRACLEAR technology enhances most patients’ comfort with contact lens wear. ACUVUE OASYS is ideal for people who experience contact lens dryness in dry or challenging environments, those who wear their lenses for long periods or do a lot of computer work, as well as anyone who complains of end-of-day discomfort.Dr. Durant says ACUVUE OASYS has become her lens of choice for first time contact lens wearers. “Its a good choice for teens or young adults. It’s my go-to lens for any myope without a significant amount of astigmatism. Everybody does well with it.”She recently received her fitting set for the ACUVUE® OASYS™ Brand Contact Lenses for ASTIGMATISM lens, and expects similar acceptance and satisfaction from patients upgraded to this lens from ACUVUE® ADVANCE Brand Contact Lenses for ASTIGMATISM. The toric lens combines the proven design of the ACUVUE ADVANCE lens with the greater comfort of the ACUVUE OASYS materials. Dr Durant says the practice has been recommending silicone hydrogel lenses because of the benefits of higher oxygen transmissibility and comfort. She advises against sleeping in lenses, but acknowledges that it occasionally happens. “I feel better knowing that if they accidentally fall asleep with their lenses in, they’re in a more breathable contact lens.” ACUVUE OASYS is approved for up to six nights of extended wear, and she recommends a two-week replacement schedule.
More than 85 percent of her silicone hydrogel lens wearers are in ACUVUE OASYS lenses. It's an easy lens to fit, she says, noting that she achieves about a 90 percent fitting success. Patients notice the improved comfort immediately. To enhance patient compliance with the two-week schedule, Dr. Durant emphasizes buying an annual supply of contact lenses and talks with each patient about the importance of replacing contact lenses. “There’s a possible increased risk of infection or a decrease in comfort if you wear these past the two-week mark,” she tells patients. VISTAKON now offers its ACUMINDER™ program, which sends registered patients an email or cell phone text reminder when it’s time to replace their contact lenses.

brand eyeglass lenses
As of May 2008, Spindel Eye Associates is proud to announce that all three of their locations are exclusively fitting HOYA brand eyeglass lenses and are recognized by Certified Technology Experts by HOYA Vision Care of America. HOYA is a diverse technology company that has been rated one of the top 100 technology companies in the world.
Over the last forty years Progressive lens technology has evolved exponentially. The HOYALUX progressive lenses offer patients lenses with the smoothest possible transition from near to far and the widest possible fields of vision. HOYA ID lenses are custom made using the patient’s prescription information including the size, shape and fit of their frame. Now, special manufacturing techniques, powered by HOYA Free Form technology, allow us to produce personalized curvatures on both the front and back surface of any lens, a process that is especially unique and exclusive to HOYA. The effect of the process allows patients to wear lenses that are absolutely the closest thing to their “natural vision.” In addition, it offers the wearer the advantage of more visual stability which is lacking in conventional progressives of the past.
HOYA Vision Care also offers the safest and most scratch resistant lens materials and the most durable non-glare treatments such as Super Hi Vision. If you want your lenses to stand the test of time and be more durable than lenses you have worn in the past, HOYA lenses are sure to satisfy.
