LASIK is the most commonly performed refractive surgery procedure used today to reduce or eliminate the use of glasses or contact lenses. During LASIK the surgeon first creates a thin corneal flap.  This traditionally has been done with a blade called a microkeratome, but at Spindel Eye Associates we use cutting edge blade-free technology to create this flap with use of the Intralase laser. The corneal flap is lifted up, and a laser beam is applied to the exposed interior surface of the cornea to reshape the tissue. The flap is then replaced over the treated area. This corneal flap serves as a natural bandage, and allows vision to improve more rapidly.
