After the LASIK

Before the procedure, we’ll apply numbing drops and you’ll only feel slight pressure from the laser. Once the lasers are finished reshaping your eye to correct vision deficiencies, the corneal flap will be lowered. The procedure, which takes up to 15 minutes, will be repeated on your other eye. In general, you should be finished within an hour!

After LASIK is finished, the surgeon will send you home with post-operative care instructions and medicated eye drops. You’ll need a family member or friend to drive you home. Many patients immediately enjoy improved vision, but some feel disoriented or have blurry vision or dry eyes afterward. These symptoms usually resolve within days or a few weeks after the surgery.

We advise you to rest as long as your surgeon tells you to. Most patients are able to resume work or regular activities in the following day, but your recovery depends on your individual circumstances.

  • Following LASIK surgery, use only the eyedrops provided by your ophthalmologist as instructed to keep your eyes lubricated and prevent infection and discomfort.
  • Rest your eyes by avoiding computer use and extended periods of reading for one to two days after your LASIK surgery.
  • Avoid rubbing or pressing on your eyes for up to two weeks after laser eye surgery. After washing your face, gently pat it dry without touching your eyes.
  • Wear sunglasses when going outside, even on cloudy days, to protect your eyes from UV radiation.

The Day After LASIK

Healing after LASIK is usually quick and easy. Your surgeon will follow up with you on the day after your procedure to examine your eyes and to measure your visual actuary. In addition to this examination, you’ll undergo a vision test to see if you can safely resume driving. After this, your surgeon may schedule additional follow-up appointments to check on your eyes’ improvement.

The Weeks and Months After LASIK

It’s important to follow your eye doctor’s instructions to ensure you heal correctly. All symptoms should disappear within a few weeks. We advise you to use artificial tears to alleviate dry eyes and facilitate healing. Attend any follow-ups required by your surgeon. After three months, your recovery process should be complete. If you need another procedure to further correct your vision, a LASIK enhancement surgery will be scheduled after this time.

Enjoy Improved Vision

And that’s it! Now you’ll be able to enjoy improved vision with almost immediate results. Over 90% of patients experience at least 20/40 vision without the use of corrective contacts or glasses after undergoing LASIK.
